STREET TALK is a NZ Transport Agency approved defensive driving programme. Successfully completing this programme can not only make you a safer, more considerate driver – it also reduces your Restricted Licence period by 6 months, enabling you as a new driver to gain your full license significantly earlier. Also now available on a Learner Licence.
Youngs Driving School instructors have offered defensive driving programmes since 1992. The updated Street Talk programme has been revised to include skills that will help both Learner and Restricted Licence drivers pass the new Driving Tests. Any Licence holders can do this programme now. It consists of FOUR 2-hour sessions in the classroom; plus ONE on-road practical session that will help you develop your driving skills and contribute to a successful pass of the tests. Restricted Licence holders can use the certificate from this programme to receive a time reduction on their Restricted Licence from 18 months down to 12 months, if under 25 years of age. If you are 25 years of age plus, then you can reduce your Restricted Licence time from 6 months to 3 months. Note: Learner Licence holders will need access to a supervisor to do the practical homework assignment on this programme. They will also need to have some driving experience; we recommend a minimum of 30 hours driving time before starting the programme.
